Heat Level: M/F – oral sex, graphic language, allusion to masturbation, violence Rating: Who knew that losing a bet with her best friend would land recently divorced nurse Olivia Sherman in Atlantic City, with two sexy casino owners hot for her commodities? Never mind that both men claim to be vampires. Moreover, they insist that she's some sort of rare evolved being called a sensay, and that it's put her life in danger from a group of extremists calling themselves Guardians (of a pure human society).
Olivia might be able to “smell” death on someone who's about to check out for the great beyond, but that didn't make her some sort of powerful, woo-woo Queen of the Evolved. And, speaking of the Evolved, what was she supposed to do with her newfound knowledge that vampires and werewolves—not to mention hybrid humans evolved from animals and even mythical beings like unicorns and satyrs—really do exist? On top of that, she has two vampires butting heads over her, and she can't quite figure out why. After all, she isn't the beauty that her best friend is. Men never look at her twice when she's with Janel, so why were Roberto Valente and Alexander Sandstrom falling all over each other trying to seduce her? Overwhelmed and confused as to how she could be attracted to both men, Olivia finds herself bound to Alex but in love with Roberto, who heads the Council of Evolved Beings and is therefore very controliing. Alex, on the other hand, is light-hearted and fun-loving, a bright foil to Roberto’s darker nature. How will Olivia be able to choose between them when both men make her sizzle like ice chips in hot grease?
When an attempt on Olivia's life is made in Atlantic City, she's forced to go on the run with Alex. After he's captured by the Guardians and Roberto comes to Olivia's rescue, she finds herself overcome by his dark sensuality. It doesn't take her long to discover that he can help her handle her raging hormones. Roberto has never broken any of the council’s rules, but when he's faced with his mounting desire for Olivia, he breaks more than one rule, including one unwritten one that may cost him everything, including Olivia.
Scent of a Vampire by Jude Stephens could very well be considered an adult Twilight, but with an interesting twist on vampires and other supernatural beings. Ms. Stephens brings evolution into the equation by characterizing supernatural beings as humans who, at sometime in their developmental past, underwent a metamorphosis with the addition of animal DNA. I didn't do too much thinking about how that might have transpired, since it has a definite eww factor. Rather, I chose to accept Ms. Stephens' evolution theory as she presented it and enjoy the story.
Scent of a Vampire is a fantastic suspense-filled romance that sinks its claws into you on page one and doesn't let go for 276 pages of action-packed intrigue and steamy sex hot enough to scorch asbestos. Despite the two men in Olivia's life, this is not a menage although I can see that coming somewhere down the line. The plot is strong in every respect, and the characters are realistically drawn, including all the supporting characters. I especially loved Alex and Alberto's friend Leeds and can't wait until he gets a book of his own, which I'm sure he will. He's just too yummy to not develop further, although Olivia does manage to sexually ignore his seven feet of gorgeous masculinity while she's melting into puddles at the feet of both Alex and Alberto. She does become great friends with Leeds, despite his bag full of extremely odd ways, not to mention that he has wings and his eyes turn red at night. I won't spoil the revelation of his true identity, but I will say—very orignal, Ms. Stephens. Very original indeed!
I found it especially easy to sympathize with Olivia's plight, but—while I completely understood why she wavered in her sexual attraction to both Roberto and Alex—I couldn't quite get a handle on her emotional vacillation between the two. However, the sex scenes further the plot and are never gratuitous. Although there were extenuating circumstances, both Roberto and Alex (particularly Roberto) disappointed me in the end. Olivia's resulting emotional pain was so palatable I went through several tissues before getting to an ending that primed me for the sequel, Touch of a Vampire, which I will be reviewing shortly. If Touch is as good as Scent, it will definitely go in my keepers.

Review from Paranormal Romance
"a definite keeper"
Olivia had no idea that her vacation to Atlantic City was going to find her not one man but two. Along with finding out that she is a powerful sensay and that a group called the Guardians want her for themselves, and if they can't have her, then they will do whatever is necessary to kill her.
Roberto is a five hundred year old vampire who has never broken any of the rules that vampires live by. But, when he meets Olivia he will break more than one rule, including one that may cost him his friend Alex.
Olivia finds herself in a tough spot when she realizes that she is in love with one vampire but bound to another. Along with the stress of learning her new abilities as a sensay, she is also trying to stay one step ahead of the Guardians.
Who will win Olivia's heart, Roberto or Alex?
Scent of a Vampire is a suspenseful, romantic story right up to the very end, where you will be left wondering what happens next, bring on the sequel! Jude Stephens has written a story that I could definitely read over and over.

Scent of a Vampire: Provided a different take on the cause of vampirism and other worldly beings existence as a result of evolution. I found this novel to be thoroughly enjoyable from the first page. Our heroine, Olivia, is thrust into a world where not everything is as it seems. We are taught that things that go bump in the night are not real, but ultimately they are very real. More than human and totally out of her depth, Olivia must place her trust in two very sexy vampires, Roberto and Alex, if she is to realize her true potential. The sexual tension and uncontrollable desire exhibited by the characters combined with the mysteries that unfold during the novel, provide a steady flow to the story. I found the spontaneity of the hot and very steamy love scenes added a flare of unpredictability to the story and allowed a reader to enjoy the characters enjoyment of each other in a very tasteful way. The development of the back-stories for characters other than Olivia, Roberto and Alex, added an additional layers to the novel and provided a better understanding of the other characters motivations and actions. The steady progression of the novel is propagated by the challenges, decisions and actions of the characters in such away that the novel succeeds in flowing to an ultimate conclusion. I enjoyed this book immensely from start to finish.

This book is an awesome read. This is a definite "adult version" of Twilight, sexy, hot, but with a romantic story to die for.
Jude Stephens manages to combine hot scenes, hot vamps, and ordinary women into a story that you can't put down. Of course this is not just your ordinary sex scene after sex scene, Jude manages to fit it all right together in an extraordinary story line.
In a "Scent of a Vampire" Olivia grows from the ordinary to the extraordinary, with circumstances against her. With the help of her Vamp lover (hot, Italian, dark, and sexy) Roberto, she learns to harness some of her power that she's growing into.
Making friends along the way, the colorful Leeds (hot, hot), Juan, Christoforo (Roberto's brother), and Alex (whom Olivia forms an unbreakable bond with, of course by accident), she has to sort though and find out who's with her, who's against her. All the time her best friend Janel has been thrust into taking this wild ride with her.
This book kept me glued to my Kindle until I finished. It has everything, Love, romance, action, suspense, and hot vampires. The character development is awesome.
I have heard, there is a sequel in the future, I really can't wait. I recommend this book to all adult pnr romance fans.

Heat Level: M/F – oral sex, masturbation, very mild bondage, graphic language, violence Rating: Three months ago, Olivia Sherman and her best friend Janel took a trip to Atlantic City to celebrate Olivia's recent divorce and find her a hot man, and their lives—especially Olivia's—changed forever. Olivia now goes by her real first name of Orenda, a name she's never liked, but is now proud to bear after discovering its true origins.
In Atlantic City, she fell for two very dissimilar vampires: the dark one, Roberto Valenti; and the light one, Alexander Sandstrom. Three months ago, she was certain that—although she was bound to Alex—she was in love with Roberto. He had gone to no end of measures to save her from the Guardians, a cult of fanatics dedicated to preserving humanity’s purity by stamping out the Evolved--humans with animal DNA. Then she discovered Roberto's lie of omission. He was already married...well, bound as vampires call it, and Alex had kept the secret from her, right along with Roberto. Why? Because the pair of them had wanted to use Olivia's emerging abilities as a rare and powerful sensay to find Alex's missing twin Annika. The woman who just happened to be bound to Roberto.
Now, estranged from both Roberto and Alex, Orenda has taken control of her own destiny, that of bringing the Evolved and the human race together in peace. Upon discovering her heritage in a secret Native American village in the Great Lakes region, she begins sensay training under the sexy Cheve, a Hopi man she has already seen in a vision. She learns not only how to use her burgeoning sensay powers but how to master the sexual desire that is too easily unleashed by the right touch—from any man. Or vampire.
When Alex comes to her, asking for help to find Roberto who has disappeared in the same fashion as Annika, Orenda leaves with Alex—much to Cheve's consternation—for Cat Island in the Bahamas, where Janel volunteers her nursing services at a local clinic. Also on the island is a resort where the Evolved enjoy the sun (except for the vamps of course) and sand. Orenda believes that it will be on Cat Island that they will find both Annika and Roberto. There, she must also confront the reality of not only her relationships to Roberto and Alex, but to those among the Evolved who fear her and want nothing more than her absolute destruction.
Like its predecessor Scent of a Vampire, Touch of a Vampire by Jude Stephens is expertly written in the first person, which is not an easy endeavor. Scent was Ms. Stephens' first book, and I highly recommend you read it first, as Touch builds directly upon it. In this one, Ms. Stephens continues Olivia/Orenda’s story, bringing the beautiful sensay into her own at the hands of handsome Hopi and sensay instructor Cheveveyo. She meets her Native American grandmother, who has a huge revelation to reveal and again runs into Leeds, that sexy Jersey Devil from book one who appears to be in the midst of his own intriguing “story” when we encounter him. We get to meet Bullet, one incredible wolf, and once again we suffer the sarcastic barbs of Roberto's disrespectful black sheep brother Christoforo, who in the end, has a big surprise for everybody.
The Evolved are a unique blend of animal and human DNA, their unusual abilities unique to the DNA soup flowing in their veins. At 30, Orenda is just now coming fully into her powers, some of which are truly amazing. Some of the scenes between her and Cheve are extremely sensual; some produce a chuckle or two. Both Roberto and Alex are striking, strong and compassionate characters. Leeds is seven feet of winged, red-eyed seduction. And Bullet may just be something more than a wolf.
As good as Scent is, Touch reflects great growth in Ms. Stephen's writing. This second installment to the series is a bit more crisp and concise, the action-packed plot even more riveting and the sensual romance thoroughly captivating. Although it closed in a somewhat predictable fashion, it was the right ending, setting up Orenda's inevitable confrontation with her enemies, both Evolved and human alike, and leaving enough unattached characters to make for several more books that I sincerely hope to see available for review very, very soon.

Night Owl Romance Top Pick
Jude Stephens shows us what true love can really be like in, Touch of the Vampire, Book Two of the Evolved. It is a story of a woman finding her destiny and something else she doesn’t expect to find. Stephens gives us a compelling and romantic story with Orenda’s path to finding herself and her destiny.
Orenda Sherman has just found out she is a Sensay, more specifically, THE Sensay, the Chosen one that will unite and bring peace to all mankind. This means she is a wanted woman with a Target on her back. The problem is that she hasn’t fully come into her powers yet and just found out Vampires, and other Mythical creatures exist. She learned this about six months ago thanks to a trip to Atlantic City with her friend Janal.
Two Vampires Alex and Roberto have stolen her heart and broken it all at once with the deception they used on her, yet they both love her. After leaving Roberto to go on her search for her destiny she finds the village and the handsome Native American, Cheve, that has been plaguing her dreams. What she also learns in the village is that her parents were her protectors. They are her adopted parents and the tribal elder of the village is actually her birth mother.
While Cheve helps her with her Sensay training Alex asks for her help in finding Roberto who has disappeared. Orenda agrees much to Cheve’s reluctance, mostly because he hates what the vampires have done to her. Orenda thinks they should look for Alex’s sister Annika first believing that she may hold some key to finding Roberto and that would be on Cat Island where her friend Janel is living.
Once there, Orenda learns of more deception and another attempt is made on her life. Will she be able to find Roberto before his life is ended? Will she find her destiny? Orenda has much to learn and figure out with her destiny looming in front of her.

Touch of a Vampire
Author- Jude Stephens
Solstice Publishing
Paranormal Romance, Vampires,
Rated Mature Erotic
Touch of a Vampire by Jude Stephens is the second book in her series. Scent of a Vampire was her first published book in 2009. We continue Olivia’s story with after a bad marriage and nearing 30 she finds on a" girls vacation" to Atlantic City with her BF Janel, she is more than human. Through meeting two hot vampires Roberto and Alex, she discovers the world of the Evolved. She is their Sensay, .and is believed to be the instrument of peace to her people. At 30 she is just coming into her powers.
Ms Stephens has introduced us to an ensemble of characters that you learn to love and they spill over to continue the tale in the second book. We still see Roberto the tall dark Italian vampire, Alex the blonde ,green eyed vamp, Janel her forever best friend, and crazy Leeds (does he really have a woman tied up in the basement? )I think that will be another story!!!!
This story is Olivia’s awakening to growing her powers, finding her past and with her new Sensay trainer Foxy Cherve learning control of her senses. Some of the scenes with them are very sensual and some very funny...We still have strife between the Evolved and the Guardians. Olivia and her crew, with her new pet Bullet (a very large wolf ) struggle to save Roberto from the bad guys. Hard decisions have to be made about her choosing Roberto or Alex. I hope everyone is happy with her choice, I was.
The next book should be interesting as our girl set us up now to go against the Guardians .I am hoping we see more of Leeds and the mystery we were left with, see if Janel can find true love.
The author writes in a clear, crisp, descriptive way, her writing is an easy flow. Humor and fun abound between characters and you laugh out loud. The sexual and sensual story is also very well written. Great Job Ms Stephens, highly recommended.
